William Hill Scottish Cup
[Tuesday, 19 July 2016 16:37]
Despite the fact that it seems only a few weeks back that we all witnessed a thrilling Scottish Cup Final between Hibernian and Rangers, albeit there was that sad aftermath, the draw for the preliminary rounds of this season’s competition have been made.
Because of number of teams that now qualify to take part in the famous old competition, there are to be two preliminary rounds, the first of which sees five ties take place on August 13th.
The draw which was made last night in Coldstream threw up an away tie for Scottish Amateur Cup holders Colville Park against debutants Edusport Academy.
There is however one really intriguing situation.
If Scottish Junior Cup winners Beith win their first round tie at Newtown Stewart and Auchinleck produce a similar end result at Wigtown, the Ayrshire junior ‘giants’ will clash in the second preliminary round on September 3rd.
Linlithgow Rose received a first round bye, but will travel to Castle Douglas in the second round to oppose Threave Rovers.
The vast majority of the Highland and Lowland League sides enter the competition at the first round proper stage in late September, with the ‘Loons’ and their nine fellow Ladbrokes League 2 teams joining the ‘party’ in the second round ties in that round scheduled for October 22nd.
Last night’s draws in full were;-
