MATCH PREVIEW: Aberdeen Under 20’s v Forfar Athletic

The ‘Loons’ begin their Irn Bru Challenge Cup campaign at the second round stage on Tuesday night with their first ever visit to North Lodge Park, the home of Highland League Formartine United where the opposition will be provided by Aberdeen’s Under 20 side.
Along with Hearts, the ‘Dons’ youngsters are the only other Development side left in the north section of the draw, a distinct difference in comparison to the south sector.
Paul Sheerin’s side reached this stage of the competition courtesy of a 5-2 win over Formartine at the same venue two weeks back, young striker Scott Wright who was on the bench for the Aberdeen first team squad at the weekend notching a hat-trick.
The Athies have no new injury worries for the game, although David Cox remains suspended.
Whether Gary decided to make a few changes from Saturday’s line-up will only come clear prior to kick-off, but rest assured Forfar are not taking the game lightly. They know a hard fought ninety minutes lies ahead and are certainly keen to continue their participation in the competition to avoid a blank Saturday in the first instance on September 3rd.
Incidentally no trialists are allowed in this competition this season, while extra time and a penalty shoot out are all possibilities if required to bring the tie to a conclusion on the night.
The match will be refereed by Grade One official Mike Ronconne.
