MATCH PREVIEW: Clyde v Forfar Athletic
[Thursday, 22 September 2016 18:13]
The ‘Loons’ head to Broadwood to meet the ‘Bully Wee’ in a league fixture for the first time in seventeen years this Saturday.
To be fair since the turn of the century the club’s paths have crossed on a couple of occasions, in the Scottish Cup in 2002 and in the League Cup in 2009, both ties at Cumbernauld ending in victories for the away side.
Gary Bollan and his players will head west in confident mood with eight successive wins under their belt and also on the back of the best start to a league campaign in the club’s history.
However Saturday’s fixture against Barry Ferguson’s side will undoubtedly be their sternest test to date.
Clyde sit in second spot in the table, five points adrift of the Station Park outfit, only Annan Athletic having picked up a three point haul against them in their six league fixtures so far.
Last Saturday they returned from Elgin with an excellent 2-0 victory in their ‘locker’, veteran strikers Sean Higgins and Peter MacDonald their marksmen, goalkeeper John Gibson who had a spell at Station Park some years back earning the Man of the Match tag from most pundits.
The ‘Loons’ management team are more than likely to field the same starting line-up that secured the points against Stirling Albion last week, with on fire Josh Peters no doubt keen to increase his current ten goal tally.
However as far as goal scoring is concerned, Forfar have been far from a ‘one man band’ with the twenty eight competitive goals netted this campaign spread throughout all departments of the side.
Martyn Fotheringham may return to the subs bench following a run out with the Development side in midweek.
Station Park officials were delighted with the slight increase in numbers at last week’s home fixture with the ‘Binos’ and hopefully a fair smattering of fans will make the journey to Broadwood to support Stuart and his team mates.
The match will be refereed by Edinburgh based Gavin Ross who took charge of our Betfred Cup tie up at Peterhead in July.
