MATCH PREVIEW: Berwick Rangers v Forfar Athletic
[Thursday, 16 February 2017 10:14]
Gary Bollan and his squad head over the border on Saturday to face Berwick Rangers for the third time this season, keen to maintain their record of not having lost a league game out with the county of Angus this campaign.
The ‘Loons,’ nine points ahead of neighbours Arbroath at the top of the table following last week’s home draw with Elgin will come up against a Berwick side who currently sit seventh with 25 points, six ahead of bottom placed Cowdenbeath.
The wee Rangers in fact brought in eight new faces in the January window, including two from Holland as well as Michael Dunlop and Euan Spark both of whom wore the ‘Athies’ colours as recently as last season.
Berwick won their last home game 4-1, Annan Athletic the opponents with Steven Thomson netting a hat-trick, before letting a two goal lead slip in the closing minutes at Stirling seven days back.
Forfar will head south knowing that they will have to make at least one change to last Saturday’s starting line-up.
Eddie Malone sits out the Shielfield contest through suspension, Eoghan McCawl or Martyn Fotheringham potential replacements.
Whether the management team will tinker further with the team or formation following last week’s slightly disappointing second 45 will be revealed by 3p.m. on Saturday afternoon, but certainly it would appear that no injury worries have surfaced following the Elgin contest.
The ‘Loons’ have picked up all six points to date against the ‘Borderers’ this term.
Down at Berwick in August, goals from Lewis Milne and Josh Peters sealed a 2-1 win, while Lewis was again on the score sheet in November at Station Park in a 2-0 success, David Cox the other home player to find the net on that occasion.
Recently promoted official Lloyd Wilson will take charge charge of his first SPFL League fixture at Shielfield on Saturday.
