The ‘Loons’ returned to SPFL Development League East action when they entertained Cowdenbeath at a rainy Station Park last night.
The home side boosted by the inclusion of Martyn Fotheringham and Marc Scott in their starting line-up ran out very comfortable 6-1 winners by the end of the night, but it in fact took until the 40th minute of the contest before the first goal arrived.
Frankie Devine was the scorer for the Athies, this after Cowden had gone close on a couple of occasions. As it happened the Fifers were back on level terms within sixty seconds courtesy of a 20 yard strike from Charlie Denton.
However the homesters in a flurry of goals regained their one goal advantage in the 43rd minute, Matthew Aitken taking advantage of defensive slackness in the visitors ranks to slip the ball past the advancing keeper.
A fine piece of individual skill in the opening minute of the second period resulted in Frankie Devine netting his second of the evening and the diminutive midfielder squandered a great chance of hat-trick when he blasted over from inside the six yard box fifteen minutes later.
Forfar though proved the stronger side in the closing stages of the contest netting three goals in the closing thirteen minutes. Marc Scott was the scorer of number four on the night from close range in the 77th minute, sub Scott Milne with a delicate lob from 20 yards out netting number five with four minutes remaining.
Sixty seconds later Scott scored the goal of the night with a screamer into the bottom corner of the net from 22 yards out.
Next midweek’s scheduled league game away to Berwick has been postponed due to the wee Rangers first team league commitments. A friendly against junior opposition will in all probability be fixed up for Tuesday evening.
