MATCH PREVIEW: Airdrieonians v Forfar Athletic
[Thursday, 30 November 2017 14:14]
The ‘Loons’ head west on Saturday still smarting from their defeat courtesy of Bobby Linn’s goal in the dying embers of the contest at Gayfield last weekend.
However they will have taken heart from a much improved overall performance when compared to the dismal cup tie showing the previous week.
One hates to use the cliché ‘a six pointer’ especially this early in the campaign but the game at the Excelsior Stadium without doubt takes on extra importance with the ‘Diamond’s sitting three points ahead of the Athies in eighth spot in the
table after fourteen games.
Forfar will assess David Cox’s fitness prior to kick-off, but will obviously still be minus the services of Mark Millar, Marc Scott, Michael Kennedy and Murray MacKintosh for the game.
Jim Weir may again decide to shuffle his pack in an effort to find the right blend especially up front, but as was the case last Saturday whoever gets a starting jersey will undoubtedly be fully motivated for the task ahead.
It would appear from afar that the hosts now managed by their former youth coach Stephen Findlay are going through a bit of turmoil at present especially behind the scenes.
Last Saturday despite taking a first minute lead, they lost 6-1 to East Fife at Bayview, this following on a cup tie defeat at home to Cove Rangers.
However a Ryan Conroy double did secure all three points in their last home league encounter when Stranraer were the opponents.
Away back on the opening day of the league campaign in sunny August, the ‘Loons’ triumphed 2-1 over Airdrie at Station Park, Mark Millar and David Cox the scorers on the day.
Edinburgh based Gavin Ross is the man in the middle, the second time he has been in charge of a Forfar fixture this term.
Airdrie have advised the following admission price structure;-
Adults £16 Concessions (over 60 & disables) £10 Under 16’s £7
