Summary – The ‘Loons’ begin the third quarter of the league campaign with a third home derby of the month when Brechin City come calling at Station Park on Saturday afternoon.
Having brought a dreadful run of results in recent times in league derby fixtures to an end with victory over Montrose two weeks back, the home side will be keen to end the year on a high note against Barry Smith’s side.
They will also be out to gain their first three-point haul of the campaign against their nearest neighbours.
Apart from the long term injuries to Matty Aitken and Aiden Wilson, manager Jim Weir will have a full pool of players to choose from with skipper Michael Travis free of suspension.
Jim will, however, be hoping that his charges trouble visiting custodian Conor Brennan more than they did his countryman Brett Long at Methil last week.
Despite some intricate lead-up play at great speed which was pleasing to the eye, the finishing touch was most certainly lacking.
Little change, however, is expected to the starting line-up for the derby clash.
City will in many ways be glad to see the back of 2018.
A winless season in the Championship came to a conclusion in late April, while performances and results in League One fixtures to date have been mixed.
Amazingly since defeating the Athies 4-0 at the Glebe in Barry Smith’s first game in charge, they have lost the next five in league and cup!
However, they are always tough opponents no matter what the circumstances when it comes to clashes with their Station Park rivals.
The home players will no doubt be all out to shed some pre-Hogmanay cheer to their fans as a year where the report card would read certainly satisfactory considering the position we were in twelve months ago, but perhaps also could have done better?
A year ago to the day however the ‘Loons’ having lost six on the bounce travelled to Championship chasing Ayr and came back from two down to triumph by the odd goal in five.
