Summary – The ‘Loons’ head to the ‘Blue Toon’ on Saturday for the first time since their epic Play-Off Final success in May of 2017 to take on Jim McInally’s side who returned to the third tier of Scottish football by clinching the Ladbrokes League 2 title in May.
Forfar will return to league action with of course a one hundred per cent record to date but still no doubt just a little disappointed with the fact that they did not manage at the very least to take Premiership Livingston to extra-time in last Saturday’s Betfred tie.
However, it is the ‘bread and butter’ of league football that Jim Weir and his players will now fully concentrate on until mid-November and they will travel to the North East with almost a full pool of players available.
The game will, however, come too early for Darren Whyte as he continues his recovery from the injury he picked up at Montrose a week past Tuesday.
That apart the only decision for the manager to make will be whether to freshen the side up from last week’s tie, but it is more than likely that the starting line up will be along similar lines.
Jim did in fact hope to have a new face in the ranks for this weekend, but to date, the deal has not been as yet ‘rubber-stamped.’
Peterhead have made a slightly indifferent start to their league campaign, drawing with Falkirk and East Fife before squandering a two-goal lead at home to Dumbarton last Saturday, the ‘Sons’ eventually running out 3-2 winners.
One of the home side’s goals last weekend came from Gary Fraser who had a short spell on Forfar’s books last season before heading to Cowdenbeath.
Gary is one of six new faces in Jim McInally’s pool this term to date including goalkeeper Lenny Wilson who arrived at Balmoor from soccer in the USA with FC Golden State Force.
Taking points from a trip to Peterhead has never proved an easy task for Athies sides in the past and Saturday will be no different.
However, with four home games out of the next five scheduled league games thereafter starting with the visit of Clyde on Saturday week, a three-point haul would certainly see the ‘feel good’ factor remain firmly in place.
