Summary – Falkirk and Forfar Athletic meet on Saturday in a league fixture for the first time since the Spring of 1991, although they have ‘crossed swords’ in cup tie action on a handful of occasions since, twice in fact in quite recent times.
Both sides go into the clash searching for form. The ‘Loons’ have now gone five games in cup and league without a win, while the ‘Bairns’ have lost two and drawn one, remaining goalless in their last three competitive games.
Jim Weir once again has a clean bill of health amongst this eighteen man squad, but will perhaps again be pondering a change or two following last week’s especially disappointing second-half performance at the end of which no one could have begrudged East Fife their victory.
The manager will certainly be hoping for and no doubt instilling in his ‘troops’ the necessity for a step up in tempo from the last few games when performances have been strangely flat and in contrast to many of not all in recent times.
There is still the option prior to the end of September to bring in another loan player or two, but there has been no movement on that front in the past day or two.
Falkirk manager Ray McKinnon has brought in an astonishing sixteen new faces to his squad following relegation from the Championship in April, the most recent Lewis Moore who spent last term at Station Park and striker David McMillan from St. Johnstone.
With such an influx it often takes a little time to find the right blend and Forfar fans will be hoping that the home side who do have a 6-0 home win over Dumbarton on their August cv will continue to struggle to find that correct mix for at least another weekend!
Michael Travis and his colleagues in a strange twist of the fixture calendar have another two home games to look forward to following Saturday’s trip to the central belt and they will no doubt be going all out to pick up three points from the contest prior to the local derby with the ‘Gable Endies’ on the 21st of the month.
