Summary – The ‘Loons’ return to Station Park on Saturday first following two successive defeats and they could not face a tougher task with league leaders Raith Rovers the visitors.
However, the home side will take heart from the fact that it is only six weeks back that they returned from Starks Park with a hard-fought and in most people’s eyes a well-won point.
However, with a four-point gap now opened between the Athies and Clyde, it is vital that Stuart Malcolm’s side gain some momentum and consistency with February already beginning to shape up as a vital month.
Forfar go into Saturday’s game with one new face in George Stanger, the young defender having completed his loan move from Hamilton. Efforts to further strengthen the squad have not to date ‘borne fruit’ but a this is more than likely to happen before the next competitive fixture in two weeks time.
Back to the present and Dale Hilson is almost certain to be fit enough this time around for a starting berth although Michael Travis’s injury continues to be monitored. Whether the management team decide to shuffle the starting ‘pack’ will as always be revealed come Saturday afternoon.
Raith clinched a 2-1 home win over Peterhead last time out, courtesy of goals from Dylan Tait and Jamie Gullan whose loan from Hibernian is due to expire after Saturday’s fixture.
They will be minus Dave McKay in Saturday’s fixture following his red card against the ‘Blue Toon’ outfit.
That three-point haul saw Raith maintain a two-point lead over Airdrie at the top of the table, this after a mixed December month in which they won two out of four, the second a spectacular 5-3 success at East Fife.
Contests between the sides have usually been hard-fought and to be fair on many an occasion recently highly entertaining affairs, six in all last term, so hopefully, this will be the case once again come Satruday.
A result in the home side’s favour would, of course, be the ‘icing on the cake.’
