Balmoor Stadium Abandonment

Forfar Athletic officials would like to share the disappointment of the ‘Loons’ fans who made the 80-mile trek to Peterhead yesterday and in the end, only saw thirty minutes of action.
However, it has to be said no real blame could be attached to any party for the eventual outcome.
From the time the Forfar players arrived on the outskirts of Peterhead for their pre-match meal at around 11.45 a.m. the wind speed steadily worsened.
On arrival at the ground just before 1.30 pm. referee Steven Reid assessed the conditions and decided to have another look thirty minutes prior to kick-off.
At that point, he decided in consultation with the managers that the game could go ahead.
However thirty minutes into the contest with the scoreline 0-0 and the wind certainly not abating, in fact, the opposite was the case, the man in the middle decided to call a halt.
A few fans no doubt would say that they have seen a match completed in worse conditions at say Gayfield for example and that is probably the case but both management teams were in total agreement with the eventual decision and the manner in which the match official handled the situation.
Of course, like the supporters, the club now has the extra expense of a second journey in a month to the Buchan coast with Tuesday, February 25th the likely re-arranged date.
