Summary – There is no understating the fact that Station Park will stage one of its biggest games of the season to date on Saturday when Stranraer come to town.
Victory for the home side will see them stretch their points differential over their visitors who currently prop up the league table to ten with twelve games remaining. Defeat and the gap will be only four.
The ‘Loons’ go into the game on the back of a slightly fruitless journey to Peterhead last weekend when only thirty minutes of match action was possible.
At the same time, Steve Farrell’s side battled the gale force winds at Stair Park to pick up a precious point against Raith Rovers, Ryan Stevenson equalising from the spot after John Baird had given Rovers a first-half advantage.
The Athies problems continued when their Monday night training base at Stenhousemuir was closed at short notice due to weather conditions, but the players battled their way to Station Park to complete a full session.
On the playing front manager, Stuart Malcolm’s starting line-up is likely to differ little from the Peterhead ‘adventure,’ although George Stanger has trained with parent club Hamilton Accies this week and will return to the Athies matchday squad.
However, on the minus side, loanee Ryan Shanley has picked up a knock while in action at Hibernian and is likely to be ruled out for a few weeks.
Stranraer have made three additions to their squad since the turn of the year with the acquisition of experienced midfield player Ryan Stevenson from Troon Juniors alongside strikers Denny Johnstone from Falkirk and Joao Victoria from Raith Rovers.
The ‘Loons’ have recorded two wins over the Stair Park outfit to date this season and the home support will head for Station Park anticipating and hoping for a third.
However, all know that accomplishing that feat will be no easy task.
C’mon the ‘loons’
