‘Bully Wee’ head for Station Park

The ‘Loons’ return to league action on Tuesday night when Clyde are the visitors to Station Park in what is the last game of the re-scheduled 18 game initial league programme.
Following Tuesday night’s matches, the SPFL League One will split into two groups of five, with each team playing four games by May 4th, the total points gained at that stage from the 22 fixtures deciding who are the Champions, the one team definitely heading to League 2 and the various playoff permutations.
The Athies and Clyde in fact met only ten days ago at Broadwood the home side winning 3-0, the Forfar management team deciding on the final whistle to depart the scene.
By a twist of the fixture fate in this season like no other, the two teams will meet again next midweek, the outcome of tomorrow night’s results deciding whether it will be on Tuesday or Thursday evening.
There is no hiding from the fact that a victory is a must for the home side tomorrow night if they are to mount a serious attempt to move off the bottom spot in the table over the next fifteen days.
There is no reason whatsoever why that result cannot be achieved.
Everyone at the club should go into the game with Danny Lennon’s side on a high, following the excellent performance in front of a nationwide television audience against Dundee United on Friday evening.
In fact, the question being asked not only in the ‘toonie’ but by football fans elsewhere is how are we stuck at the foot of the table when we were able to give a mid-table Premiership outfit who had only played a couple of games over the time that the home side had played six such a’ run for their money.’
Sadly the table does not lie!
Interim boss Gary Irvine will be able to call on the services of the five cup-tied players in his squad namely Grant Anderson, Michael Anderson, Callum Moore, Andy Munro and Martin Scott to boost numbers for the return to league action.
It will certainly leave him with a selection quandary, but one he will be delighted to have.
No major injury worries were reported following the United fixture, just a few tired limbs.
However visitors Clyde are the only team in the league who have had an even more hectic schedule than the home side, last week their third running where they have played competitive matches on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The three games last week saw their management team rotate their squad in league defeats to Partick and Dumbarton, prior to their cup demise courtesy of two first-half goals away to St. Johnstone on Saturday evening.
The game on Tuesday will also see a welcome return to Station Park for Jamie Bain who made the move to Cumbernauld last August.
Tomorrow night’s fixture again behind closed doors reverts to the more normal 7.45 p.m. kick-off timing.
Ayrshire based Kevin Graham will referee a Forfar game for the third time this calendar year.
Tomorrow night’s other League One fixtures are;- Airdrieonians v East Fife, Dumbarton v Partick Thistle, Montrose v Cove Rangers, Peterhead v Falkirk
