Peterhead v Forfar Athletic – match preview
[Friday, 30 April 2021 17:14]
Just 42 hours after trooping off the Station Park pitch, the ‘Loons’ players will be back in action on Saturday afternoon in this crazy end of season scenario that all clubs at League One and Two level find themselves coping with at present.
Following on from their battling and much needed 2-1 success over Clyde on Thursday evening, Balmoor Stadium in Peterhead is the Athies penultimate league game venue.
It was in fact a happy hunting ground for the Station Park outfit back in late November when a Bobby Barr header clinched their first three-point haul of the season.
The clubs also met at Station Park in a midweek joust in late March, the outcome on that occasion a 1-1 draw.
Not that there was much doubt about it anyway, but 3-0 and 3-1 wins over Clyde and East Fife respectively in the past week have secured League One football next season for Jim McInally’s side who finished in seventh spot in the league table at the 18 game pre-split point.
There is no doubt that there was a great relief at Station Park last night when Daniel Scally netted the late winner against the ‘Bully Wee’ securing as it did the ‘Loons’ first home league victory since February of 2020.
There was also pride in the performance level attained when in fact heads could well have been down after a few ‘sair dunts’ in recent times, but to the interim management team and the player’s credit, the opposite was the case.
Gary Irvine will likely have the same squad available for the trip to the Buchan coast and will again be looking for the same level of commitment from the players and hopefully the right outcome at the end of what will nevertheless be a tough ninety minutes against a home side who will be keen to end their season on a high with four post-split successes.
Mike Roncone is the man in the middle for the fixture.
