Preview – The ‘Loons’ return to Station Park on Saturday afternoon, Elgin City managed by former Athies striker Gavin Price providing the opposition.
The home side go into the game on the back of a six game unbeaten run in competitive action and they currently sit in third position behind Kelty Hearts and Stirling Albion in the league table.
Following on their comfortable win over Annan in their last home game three weeks back, Scottish Cup progress was clinched up at Formartine, before another three point haul was secured with an odd goal in five success in a hectic and highly entrtaining ninety minutes down at Stranraer last week.
Matty Aitken and Craig Thomson added to their goal tallies at Stair Park in that game, while Jamie Ness netted his first counter for the club when heading home the late winner.
Craig Thomson actually picked up a knock in scoring his counter and is the only slight doubt going into tomorrow’s fixture.
A bonus this week has been the return to full training of Sam Fisher which may see him secure a spot on the bench against the Boroughbriggs outfit.
However Gary Irvine is unlikely to make many if any unforced changes to his starting line up.
Elgin who sit ninth in the league table at present, head to Station Park having exited the Scottish Cup at home in a replay to non league Clydebank last weekend, having had ample opportunities to put the game ‘to bed’ in the first half of the televised clash between the sides at Yoker.
Three players who previously have worn the ‘Loons’ colours while on temporary transfer namely Russell Dingwall, Archie MacPhee and Euan Spark were in the City starting line-up last Saturday.
Back in August the sides fought out a 1-1 draw in Morayshire.
Stefan McCluskey gave Forfar a 20th minute lead, Connor O’Keefe netting the homesters goal early in the second period.
Despite the difference in league positioning at present another close and hard fought encounter can be expected on Saturday in what is ‘Derby’ day in league two, the next fixture between the sides the New Year clash scheduled for January 2nd up north.
Peter Stuart takes charge of a ‘Loons’ fixture for the third time this season on Saturday, one of the previous occasions the August meeting between the sides, strangely the second Saturday running this has been the case with the appointed match official.
This weekend’s other cinchleague2 fixtures are;-
Friday evening – Edinburgh City v Albion Rovers
Saturday – Annan Athletic v Stranraer, Cowdenbeath v Kelty Hearts, Stirling Albion v Stenhousemuir
