Preview – The ‘Loons’ will be keen to get back to winning ways when they entertain Cowdenbeath at Station Park on Saturday following their 1-0 defeat to league leaders Kelty Hearts in a hard fought encounter in West Fife last weekend.
That result brought to an end what had been a seven game unbeaten run in cup and league outings for Ross Meechan and his colleagues.
Manager Gary Irvine rightly still saw many positives over the ninety minutes against Kevin Thomson’s outfit, but in a game where it always looked likely one goal could be decisive it was the home side who found the net two minutes into the second period.
Forfar thanks to results elsewhere retained their second spot in the table despite the reverse and it is highly unlikely that the management team will make many changes for the visit of the ‘Blue Brazil.’
Jamie Ness’s injury received in the Elgin clash two weeks back will be assessed pre-match, while Grant Anderson should return to the match day squad.
Cowdenbeath head to Station Park sitting in bottom spot in the league table with six points and only one victory recorded back in August at home to Elgin City in early August.
They did however pick up one of their other three points when the sides clashed at Central Park in mid September.
On the day, Matty Aitken gave the visitors a half time lead, Cowdenbeath’s Craig Thomson netting the second half equaliser with a stunning 30 yard free kick.
Following their 4-2 home defeat in the cup by Civil Service strollers four weeks back, Gary Bollan stepped aside from the managerial post by mutual consent, his replacement former Scotland defender Maurice Ross who wore the colours of thirteen clubs worldwide during his playing career.
Since taking over the reins the Fifers have lost to Kelty and Elgin by a solitary goal on both occasions, but showing a marked improvement by all accounts in performance level.
Gary Irvine and his management team will have noted this without doubt and will have their side well prepared for what is certain to be a tough ninety minutes.
The superb support numerically the ‘Loons’ had behind them at Kelty last week has been well documented. Hopefully the same will be the case on their return to home soil where the players will be all out to pick up three valuable points prior to cup tie action next week.
Maintaining their unbeaten record this season in competitive fixtures at ‘fortress’ Station Park is also a top priority.
Steven Reid is Saturday’s referee, the first time this season that the West of Scotland based official has had control of a ‘Loons’ fixture.
This weekend’s other cinchleague2 fixtures are;-
Saturday – Annan Athletic v Albion Rovers, Kelty Hearts v Stenhousemuir, Stirling Albion v Edinburgh City, Stranraer v Elgin City
