Preview – Forfar Athletic have a chance to extend their unbeaten home run in competitive e fixtures this season to eleven matches when Stenhousemuir are the visitors to Station Park for the first time since February of 2019 on Boxing Day.
This fixture will also see the cinch league 2campaign reach the halfway point with Gary Irvine’s side certain to reach that stage of the season sitting in second spot in the table.
Normally fixtures over the Festive Period see a reasonable increase in attendances but with the restrictions put in place from Boxing Day and in the current climate, this will not be the case this time around.
However, Forfar officials are hopeful that the crowd on Sunday will not be far short of the permitted 500 if it all.
The ‘Loons’ certainly come into the fixture in great form, the three games played in December to date having yielded full points with nine goals scored and only two conceded.
Last weekend the margin of victory over Edinburgh City could well have ended greater than the final 4-0 scoreline, the game at a freezing Ainslie Park dominated by the men in sky blue.
Yet again the goals were well shared out on the night, another pleasing aspect of the season to date.
Like all teams at present, the Athies are hit by injury and illness, although hopefully, the majority of the squad on duty in the Capital City will again be available for selection and Grant Anderson who missed the win over Edinburgh City returned to training in midweek.
The ‘Warriors’ managed this season by Stephen Swift who joined them in the close season from Lowland League outfit Broomhill currently sit seventh in the table on the twenty point mark, fifteen adrift of their Sunday opponents.
In recent weeks, they lost 4-1 at home to Stranraer before 2-2 draws with Edinburgh City at Ochilview and up at Elgin last Saturday.
In that fixture, they raced into a 2-0 lead within twenty minutes, only for Gavin Price’s side to bounce back and get a share of the spoils.
Two familiar faces in the visitor's squad are Ross Forbes and BJ Coll.
The ‘Loons’ will undoubtedly wish to end a year of very mixed fortunes on a high and there is no reason on current form why that ambition cannot be achieved as a troubled twelve months for football and beyond are ‘put to bed.’
This Sunday’s other cinch league2 fixtures are;-
Annan Athletic v Kelty Hearts (1p.m. ko) Albion Rovers v Stranraer (3p.m. ko)
Finally a Merry and Safe Christmas to all Forfar Athletic supporters and hopefully you will all receive an après Christmas present of three points on Boxing Day.
C’mon the ‘Loons.’
