Key Dates in the Calendar for 2022/23 Season

We may only be just over halfway through the current campaign, but the SPFL have today confirmed certain key dates for next season.
Of course, the big change in the football calendar for the 2022/23 season is the first-ever staging of the World Cup Finals during the UK winter months in November and December.
This means that the cinch Premiership will have a five-week shutdown from mid-November, resuming on the weekend prior to Christmas.
All other three leagues within the SPFL structure will continue as normal during that period.
The final round of Premiership fixtures will be contested during the final weekend of May 2023.
The SPFL league season will commence in all four divisions over the last weekend in July of this year.
At cinch league 1&2 level the 36th and final fixture round will take place on Saturday, May 6th, with the play-offs to be contested over the following two weeks as normal.
Group stage matches in the Premier Sports League Cup will commence over the weekend of 9th/10th July.
However, there will be changes to the format in the later stages to accommodate the World Cup dates, the semi-finals due to be held in January 2023 with the final the following month.
During the current campaign, the semi-finals were staged in November with the final played on December 20th.
Scottish Cup dates have still to be ratified but it is almost certain that the showpiece end of season final will not take place until early June of 2023.
