PREVIEW
The ‘Loons’ welcome Stenhousemuir to Station Park on Saturday, both sides having bowed out of the SPFL Trust Trophy in midweek.
The ‘Warriors’ lost 3-1 up at Elgin, while the Athies could count themselves unlucky to lose in the end by the odd goal in three to Kelty Hearts at Station Park.
Forfar’s display against Kelty, especially in the second 45 was to say the least encouraging, a fact acknowledged on the night and since by the supporters who were present.
Time and time again, the home side surged towards Darren Jamieson’s goal, but in the end they had only one goal to show for their efforts a superbly worked and finished effort it was as Callum Moore met Stefan McCluskey’s pinpoint cross to volley home.
The sucker punch was then delivered from a quickly taken free-kick by the visitors with four minutes of the ninety remaining.
Hope for the immediate future however but that will be tempered by a horrendous injury list with four of the squad almost certain to be unavailable for Saturday’s fixture.
Darren Whyte remains sidelined and he is joined by fellow defender Yussuf Hussain injured in the early stages of last weekend’s game at Methil, Craig Thomson and Nathan Flanagan.
The fitness of Tarek Abed who limped off against Kelty within minutes of the kick-off will be assessed on arrival at Station Park.
On the plus side all connected with the club were delighted when James Keatings made his debut in the second period on Tuesday night.
The visitors have not had their troubles to seek this season so far either.
Following an opening day success in the league over Albion Rovers, Stephen Swift’s side have subsequently lost their next three fixtures culminating in a 3-1 defeat at Ochilview against Dumbarton last weekend.
Stephen brought in ten new faces in the summer months, but only four fetured in his starting line up against the ‘Sons.’
A familiar face to the Station Park faithful Ross Forbes now in his second season with the ‘Warriors’ made a second half appearance from the bench in that game
Last season, the ‘Loons’ failed to ‘lower the colours’ of Saturday’s visitors in four attempts.
At Station Park, Stenhousemuir triumphed 4-3 in an amazing Boxing Day confrontation before on the last day of the league campaign, the sides fought out a dull 0-0 draw, while at Ochilview the home side recorded a 2-0 win in February preceeded earlier in the campaign by a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
Craig Slater and his colleagues will be all out to right that wrong this weekend and following on from Tuesday night’s overall showing Manager Gary Irvine and his backroom team are rightly upbeat about the chances.
Long serving Grade One official Alan Newlands who took charge of the ‘Loons’ fixture at Bonnyrigg four weeks back is once again the man in the middle.
