Forfar Athletic v Elgin City – Monday January 2nd
[Tuesday, 27 December 2022 16:29]
Thirty days on from their last home fixture, the ‘Loons’ return to Station Park action on January 2nd, the Bank Holiday Monday afternoon when Elgin City will provide the opposition.
Over Friday evening and Saturday afternoon of last weekend, the other eight teams in the cinch league2 were in competitive action, the Athies having played their scheduled Christmas Eve fixture at Ochilview earlier in the month.
Elgin lost out 2-1 on the Friday evening to Stirling Albion at Boroughbriggs, Annan Athletic, Bonnyrigg Rose and Dumbarton the trio of teams to also pick up a pre-Christmas present of three points.
That meant that the ‘Loons’ slipped back to ninth position in the table, one point adrift of Stenhousemuir and Bonnyrigg.
Monday’s fixture will be one of only three games being played over the weekend in the fourth tier, Dumbarton visiting Albion Rovers and Stirling Albion entertaining near neighbours Stenhousemuir on Hogmanay afternoon.
Hopefully the long range weather forecast for reasonably mild weather for the time of the year over the New Year holiday period will bear fruit and a larger than normal support will be in the stand and on the terracing at Station Park on the day to give full backing to Ray McKinnon and his squad as they attempt to begin a New Year as they ended the old one even though it was over a fortnight ago with a victory.
