PREVIEW
Station Park as mentioned earlier in the week will house the cinch league2 game of the day on Saturday when league leaders Dumbarton are the visitors.
Both teams have been in good form of late and sit in the top two spots in the current form table.
Manager Ray McKinnon is certainly looking forward to the fixture and with his side having drawn both games to date with the impressive ‘Sons’ this season sees no reason why they cannot go one better this time round.
However Ray realises it will be a tough task. Dumbarton are top of the table four points clear of second placed Stirling Albion for a reason, in fact they have lost only two games to date from the eighteen played.
No excuses but the Station Park boss would have preferred to have been going into the game with a clean bill of health but as seems always this is not the case with Tomas Brindley joining long term injury victim Darren Whyte on the sidelines after his wrist injury early in the second half at Galabank last weekend.
One of two others in the squad as was also the case last week will require to have their health and fitness assessed on the day.
The home side will certainly go into the game on a high following the win at Annan, three points secured on the day courtesy of an excellent team performance, aided it has to be said by a couple of great saves from Marc McCallum.
Saturday will also see home debuts for recent signings Seb Ross and Adam Hutchinson who both impressed at Annan, this despite only joining the ‘ranks’ in the 48 hours prior to the contest.
It was a goalless but nevertheless highly entertaining fixture between the sides at Station Park in early October, a 2-2 draw the outcome of a game that had almost everything on the banks of the Clyde in November.
On the day the Athies took the lead courtesy of an own goal early in the contest, Greg Wylde netting the home side’s first half equaliser.
Stefan McCluskey then put the visitors ahead just past the hour mark, this despite being down to ten men by then after Kyle Hutton had been shown a second yellow card, Callum Wilson however making it 2-2 within a minute of the re-start.
Dumbarton’s last match was a 1-0 win at Albion Rovers on Hogmanay, their scheduled home game with Stirling Albion falling victim to heavy rain last Saturday.
They head to Station Park on the back of manager Steve Farrell being named the league’s Manager of the Month for December, while goalkeeper Brett Long who had a short spell on loan at Station Park some years back recently broke a long standing club record with his tenth shut out of the season.
Hopefully there will be a reasonable turn out of home supporters to give their backing to the players as they continue their quest in the first instance to pull well clear of the lower echelons of the league table.
The match will be refereed by Ross Hardie who was in charge of Annan’s visit to Forfar back in November.
