Dumbarton v Forfar Athletic – match preview
[Friday, 10 March 2023 10:53]
Firstly the disappointing but perhaps not surprising news following the postponement of Dumbarton’s home game with Stirling Albion on Tuesday evening and the subsequent freezing conditions since.
There is a major doubt in regard to tomorrow’s cinch league2 clash at the Dumbarton Stadium going ahead with a fair portion of the playing surface still frozen.
In the circumstances ‘Sons’ officials have made a request to the SPFL to arrange a Saturday morning inspection, the exact timing of which will be communicated later today.
One had hoped that with the arrival of March month, potential postponements and with it midweek re-arranged fixtures would have been consigned to the past but that it appears might not be the case.
The Athies have of course already had away games at Stirling Albion and Bonnyrigg fall foul of the winter weather this term, but then again to be fair all clubs do not have the luxury of a 4G playing surface.
If the game does get the ‘green light’ it will give Ray McKinnon and his squad the chance to go through the season undefeated against the league leaders who currently sit five points clear of Stirling Albion who do have two games in hand a the top end of the table.
The sides shared the spoils in a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Station Park in October, before it was again a point apiece six weeks later, 2-2 the final score line in the shadow of the imposing Dumbarton Rock.
Forfar in fact were in the lead twice in that contest but could not hold on, but no such problems in mid-January at Station Park when a Ben Armour brace secured a 2-1 win for the home side over the league-leading visitors.
Ray McKinnon will have a few injury problems to contend with tomorrow but all behind the scenes are keen to get out on the field of play and hopefully get the Station Park side back to winning ways following a run of four games, three of which ended in draws, but culminated in a 3-2 defeat at Methil last Saturday when for the second time in the course of the week a late counter by their opponents cost Forfar dear.
Tomorrow’s other scheduled cinch league 2 fixtures are;- Albion Rovers v Stranraer, Annan Athletic v Elgin City, Stenhousemuir v East Fife, Stirling Albion v Bonnyrigg Rose
