Elgin City v Forfar Athletic – match preview
[Monday, 20 November 2023 16:22]
The ‘Loons’ make the lengthy midweek journey to Bororughbriggs on Tuesday evening on the back of an excellent all round team effort which secured a three point haul at Bonnyrigg on Saturday past.
This fixture was originally scheduled for October 21st but fell victim to the ravages of Storm Babet.
It is the second of three away games in eight days for the Athies and whisper it, we could reach fifth place in the cinch league2 table if victory is the outcome against a home side currently sitting three points adrift of their opponents.
Ray McKinnon was delighted with the work ethic shown by his players in testing underfoot conditions at New Dundas Park on Saturday past, finally ending a disappointing run of results against Robbie Horn’s outfit.
Though never one to particularly pick out individual players he must have been impressed by the central defensive duo of Andy Munro and Adam Hutchinson, while Stuart Morrison and Mark Whatley did to say the least a power of work in the engine room that is midfield.
It was as previously stated an impressive collective performance, hopefully a good omen for the winter months ahead.
Good news on the injury front as well with no new knocks or ailments reported, so a full squad will head north from Station Park on Tuesday afternoon for what all know will be another tough and tight encounter.
The home side are currently under the temporary player-management of Ross Draper who actually began the season in the Elgin hot seat, this following the resignation of Barry Smith due to work commitments following their 2-0 home win over Bonnyrigg a week past Saturday.
Ross was actually involved in the lead up to both goals in that game, scored by Rory MacEwan and Connal Ewan and he was again the starting line up at Dumbarton on Saturday past, the ‘Sons’ winning 1-0 courtesy of a second half penalty counter.
Elgin and Forfar have clashed on two occasions already this season, both games ending goalless after ninety minutes, City clinching the SPFL Trust trophy tie up north in a penalty shoot-out.
All connected with the ‘Loons will be hoping to head down the A96 as Wednesday dawns with a goal or two to savour on this occasion and a three point haul.
Andy Gamble is Tuesday’s match official, the second time this season that he will have been in charge of an Athies fixture.
