PREVIEW
The ‘Loons’ return to home soil on Saturday following three games on the road, two of which were won.
Stranraer one of the two teams that the Athies have accrued a three point haul against to date this term are the visitors to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park. That victory was recorded at Stair Park in late September, goals from Ryan Paterson and Josh Skelly securing a 2-0 success.
The home side go into the game buoyed by their solitary goal win in the cup at Tranent last weekend in what was to say the least a hard fought ninety minutes.
The management and players will also go into Saturday’s contest conscious of the fact that all four victories in competitive fixtures since the Viaplay Cup sectional ties were completed have come away from home and with seven of their next ten games due to take place at Station Park, that part of the form book will require to be adjusted and quickly.
Manager Ray McKinnon however is confident that the ‘tide will turn’ starting with the visit of Scott Agnew’s outfit and as ever Ray is looking forward to the ninety minutes ahead.
He is also delighted with the fact that he will have a near full squad to choose from.
Josh Skelly only fit enough for a cameo sub appearance last weekend is raring to go from the off if required, while Seb Ross struck down by a bug that saw him miss both the Elgin and Tranent fixtures was back in full training in midweek.
Rory MacLeod is available and back in the match day squad.
The management team will have been impressed as were the supporters by the solidity shown last Saturday by the ‘Loons’ back line, while there was a steely determination emanating throughout the ninety minutes from the midfield unit, Marc McCallum again excelling especially in the first period between the sticks.
Stranraer travel north having lost 1-0 at home to Airdrieonians in the cup last weekend, this following on successive league defeats at the hands of Peterhead and Stenhousemuir.
Goal scoring has been a problem for the Stair Park men, their leading scorer Tommy Orr having netted four in competitive fixtures, former ‘Loons’ striker Ben Armour having found the net three times.
The support afforded the players in recent times particularly at Bonnyrigg and Tranent has been superb and hopefully the Station Park faithful will play a prominent part, backing their side in the weeks ahead beginning this Saturday.
A much hoped for victory would certainly see Andy and his colleagues begin a climb up the cinch league2 table.
Daniel Graves is the man in the middle.
C’mon the ‘Loons.’
