Clyde v Forfar Athletic – match preview
[Monday, 19 February 2024 12:16]
The ‘Loons’ head for New Douglas Park in Hamilton on Tuesday night for their re-arranged joust with Clyde, the contest originally scheduled for mid January but postponed due to both club’s Scottish Cup commitments.
The Athies will head to Lanarkshire still without doubt hurting from their second half collapse on Saturday past against Peterhead, a fact acknowledged by manager Ray McKiinnon in his after match comments.
To again utilise a well worn phrase over the past weekend, the staff and players will have to quickly ‘dust themselves down’ feature on the first half positives from Saturday past and come out all ‘guns blazing’ against the ‘Bully Wee’ and build on what is without doubt a more than satisfactory record of thirteen points from the last eight games in the cinch league2.
On the availability front for the midweek fixture, Seb Ross a late call off on Saturday past is again a doubt but the remainder of the squad are fighting fit.
Daniel Scally who returned to the ranks late last week made an impressive debut second time round on Saturday before running out of steam a little will undoubtedly add more depth to the squad in the remainder of the campaign, while the fans were delighted to see the goal scoring prowess of Russell McLean blossom with his second brace since arriving at the club.
Stuart Morrison also added to his impressive goal tally against the ‘Blue Toon’ outfit, his first half strike on Saturday his eighth of the season from his midfield berth.
Clyde now under the management of that wily veteran of the game Ian McCall picked up a welcome three points on Saturday past with a 2-0 home win over Dumbarton, Martin Rennie the scorer of both their goals on the day.
That three point haul saw them move to within eight points of Stranraer and Forfar at the wrong end of the table.
The one down side to Saturday’s victory for the ‘Bully Wee’ the late red card for Jordan Allan which means he will sit out Tuesday’s contest.
Their recruitment process since January has seen virtually a new eleven arrive at the club, one of the latest of that group of newcomers former West Ham United goalkeeper Brian Kinnear making an impressive debut against the ‘Sons.’
The teams have shared the spoils in the two fixtures to date this season, an instantly
unforgettable 0-0 draw in early September being followed by a final score line in the November re-match at Station Park of 1-1.
It is certainly all to play for without a doubt for both sides on Tuesday night, a game which will be the first of three successive away games for Andy Munro and his colleagues, trips to East Fife and Stranraer on the horizon over the next two Saturdays.
Scott Lambie will be the man in the middle at New Douglas Park.
