PREVIEW
Three league games to go in what has to be classed as a disappointing season and the ‘Loons’ welcome East Fife to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park on Saturday first for what is a vital game for the home side.
They go into the contest sitting in seventh spot in the cinch league2 table, albeit with a five point cushion over bottom side Stranraer and four points ahead of Clyde but nevertheless on the back of a three successive defeats to Spartans, Dumbarton and Peterhead.
What would be only an eighth league success of the campaign is the number one priority against Dick Campbell’s ‘troops’ and no one involved at Station Park is hiding from that fact.
Manager Ray McKinnon as were others was impressed with many facets of the performance at the Balmoor Stadium last weekend but they brought no reward at the end of the ninety minutes.
Hopefully on Saturday with so much at stake, the players can re-discover the passion and no little skill shown on many occasions in the second half of this season, notably the cup tie heroics against Hibernian.
The manager has again being delighted by the attitude at training in midweek and has no doubt that come 3p.m. tomorrow the players will be in the right frame of mind and fully motivated for the task ahead.
There is great news on the player availability front ahead of the game. Stewart Morrison returns to the match day squad having served his two match suspension while Finn Robson has fully recovered from his bout of concussion which saw him sit out the Peterhead clash.
Russell McLean though he will need a final pre-match check is also expected to be available, while Craig Thomson returned to the fold this past midweek.
Saturday’s visitors surprisingly lost 4-1 at home to Bonnyrigg Rose last Saturday, their first defeat since Dick took the reins, assisted by brother Ian, John Young and Stuart Malcolm all with strong Station Park connections back in late January.
Back to tomorrow’s game on what is ‘derby’ day in the division and as mentioned earlier in the week a day in which the bottom five clubs in the league table entertain the top five. There is little doubt especially if the three previous encounters this term between the sides are anything to go by that the Station Park clash will be a tight affair.
All three fixtures have after all ended in a share of the spoils!
Hopefully on this occasion as we really and truly enter the ‘final straight’ a home victory for Andy Munro and his colleagues is the outcome by five o’clock this Saturday, bringing with it relief and hopefully a smile or two on the faces of the diehard ‘Loons’ support who have given the players such superb backing throughout.
Match referee Peter Stuart will be making his second visit of the season to Station Park, having previously been in charge of the visit of Spartans in early February.
C’mon the ‘Loons’
