Brechin City v Forfar Athletic – match preview
[Friday, 28 June 2024 11:11]
The ‘Loons’ begin their pre-season programme of three fixtures with a visit to near neighbours Brechin City on Saturday.
The squad have had a full week of pre-season training at the excellent facilities at Stirling University under their belt as they go into the contest against a side now under the management of Patrick Cregg who spent six months as a Forfar Athletic player back in 2017.
Athies manager Ray McKinnon, who has been impressed with the fitness levels of the players on their return, has to date added three new faces to his squad Blair Malcolm, Ross MacLean and Mitch Taylor and the trio are all set to feature in tomorrow’s contest.
Ray is well aware of the fact that he is currently low in numbers as far as squad depth is concerned, a fact that will require to be rectified to a degree before the start of competitive action in two weeks time.
However, he asks the supporters to be patient, while confirming offers are on the table at present to a few potential targets in what has been a harsh signing environment this close season to date.
Clubs such as Forfar Athletic are now not only in competition with other SPFL League One and Two outfits for recruits but also more than few high spending non league clubs from ‘a the airts’.
A number of trialists will be on show and ‘under the microscope’ at Glebe Park as is always the case at this time of the calendar year.
The home side already have a pre-season run out under their belts against a strong Dundee United side last weekend as they to prepare for Premier Sports Cup action.
City fielded a plethora of trialists last week in a match that ended 2-0 in the Tannadice side’s favour.
The ‘Loons’ have one more open door friendly against Formartine United at home on the 6th of July to follow along with a closed door fixture against Lowland League opposition, before Livingston visit Station Park in the Premier Sports Cup opener on the 13th of next month.
An important reminder to supporters that tomorrow’s fixture at Glebe Park has a 2p.m. kick-off.
