Peterhead v Forfar Athletic – Match Preview
[Friday, 09 August 2024 09:12]
The ‘Loons’ make the first of two trips to the Buchan Coast in four days when they head to Peterhead on Saturday in match day two of the William Hill League2 campaign.
They head north in good spirits despite not quite managing to secure all three points in what was a hard fought opener against Clyde last Saturday.
Manager Ray McKinnon was however delighted with the overall performance against a rejuvenated ‘Bully Wee’ and felt that with a little ‘rub of the green’ a first day victory could have been achieved.
Understandably visiting manager Ian McCall thoughts were similar, but of course he felt Clyde might have just edged it at the end of the ninety minutes in which there was so little to choose between the teams.
On to this Saturday and Ray acknowledges that it will again be a tough ninety minutes ahead against a side who comfortably finished in the play-off spots last time round.
Ray has a couple of players who are potential doubts for the Balmoor clash, but there was a fair degree of talent occupying the subs bench last weekend all fit and raring for the opportunity to impress.
The home side again under the joint control of former ‘Loon’ Jordon Brown and Ryan Strachan have had a mixed start to the season with a win, a draw and two heavy defeats albeit to Queens Park and Hibernian in their Premier Sports Group before clinching all three points at Bonnyrigg on the opening afternoon of league action.
Another ex Forfar Athletic player Ben Armour came off the bench to notch that winner in Midlothian, Seb Ross who moved to the ‘Blue Toon’ in the summer, the creator of the goal also after coming on as a sub.
A ‘tasty’ ninety minutes would appear to be in store with the Forfar rearguard, ‘solid as a rock’ on Saturday past no doubt aware of the threat from the experienced home duo of Rory McAllister and Peter Pawlett.
The man in the middle on Saturday is Gary Hanvidge who also took charge of our Premier Sports tie against Spartans last month.
