Forfar Athletic v Montrose – Match Preview
[Friday, 27 June 2025 12:50]

The ‘Loons’ continue their pre-season preparations with a visit to the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park from near neighbours Montrose on Saturday afternoon.
For Jim Weir and his players it will be a step up in their pre-season programme, following half a dozen training sessions and last weekend’s testimonial run out at Luncarty. The ‘Loons’ manager views tomorrow’s fixture as the real beginning of the route towards first of all the four Premier Sports Cup fixtures on the horizon next month and the William Hill League2 campaign beyond.
Jim is delighted that he will have fourteen of his first team squad available for the game including all six of the new faces brought in to date. Only skipper Stuart Morrison due to a long standing personal commitment and Matty Allan due home over the weekend after a four week break in Australia will be absent from the ranks, with a handful of trialists who have continued to train with the squad this past midweek likely to also feature at some stage in the contest.
A reminder for Athies supporters, the close season signings to date have been Jake Dolzanski, Angus Mailer, Lewis Martin, Martin Rennie, Jamie Richardson and Scott Shepherd. Visiting manager Stewart Petrie has also been active in the signing department in recent weeks recruiting Ross Clark, Kieran Freeman, Euan Loudon and Craig Wighton to Links Park ranks.
Hopefully the match will see a reasonable turnout from fans of both sides eager to get to make an early assessment of the potential on show as the start of the competitive season draws ever closer.
A reminder that the clash with the ‘Gable Endies’ will kick-off at 1.30pm, with a 2pm. start scheduled for the home fixture against Championship outfit St. Johnstone on Saturday week, the 5th of July.
