Forfar Athletic v Arbroath – Match Preview
[Friday, 25 July 2025 16:54]
Our near neighbours make the short trip inland with five points in the ‘locker’ to date and with a very slim chance of progressing to the last sixteen stage of the competition if they can achieve a victory on Saturday. They recorded their first win at home to Annan on Tuesday evening, former Cliftonville striker Arran Pettifer one of eleven summer signings notching a hat-trick. Other notables within the group of new faces brought to Arbroath by the joint management team of David Gold and Colin Hamilton in recent times include the much travelled Nikolay Todorov, former Hearts starlet Harry Cochrane and fomer Falkirk and Partick stalwart Aaron Muirhead.
Home supporters on Saturday will be hoping that the current squad can repeat the success achieved in the last clash between the sides in the same competition just over two years back when a 3-1 victory was achieved by the ‘Loons’ of the day. However no one involved at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park is under any illusion in regard to the tough ninety minutes that lie ahead.
Hopefully fans of both sides will turn out in good numbers to add to the derby match atmosphere which will also be enhanced by four parties totalling in excess of forty in number enjoying a Ladies Day Out in the hospitality complex.
The man in the middle on Saturday is Iain Sneddon who was in charge of a few Premiership matches last term.
The other fixture in Group D this weekend takes place on Sunday in Paisley when the top two in the table at present Ayr United and St. Mirren clash.
