Hectic August ahead for the ‘Loons’

With the pre-season friendly fixtures and the four Premier Sports Cup ties ‘put to bed’, the start of the William Hill League2 campaign is on the horizon as the month of August dawns. It will be a busy month for all twenty clubs in the two lower tiers of the SPFL with seven fixtures to be played.
Five of those will be in the William Hill League2, the others, the first two of six fixtures in the opening stage of the revamped Challenge Cup competition under the new banner of the KDM Evolution Trophy.
Forfar Athletic kick-off their league campaign on Saturday first at the Alpha Projects Stadium @ Station Park with a visit from Stranraer. Seven days later the destination will be New Douglas Park in Hamilton for a clash with Clyde.
The first of the KDM Evolution Trophy fixtures is scheduled for Tuesday the 12th of August, Hibernian’s youngsters the first of three Premiership ‘B’ teams who will pay us a visit in the league format of the competition. This tournament this time round one would imagine will not be taken lightly by any of the SPFL sides with the financial rewards on offer substantially higher than in previous seasons.
Stirling Albion our final opponents of the 24/25 league campaign are the third opponents this time round a second home league fixture of the season for the Athies on the 16th of the month, this being followed seven days later by a trip to the Capital City to face The Spartans.
Match day two in the KDM sees the ‘Loons’ hit the road for one of their two away ties at the initial stage of the competition on Tuesday August 26th, a no doubt keenly contested local derby against Montrose at Links Park the fare on offer.
Finally on the last Saturday of the month, match day five in the William Hill League2 campaign sees the ‘Loons’ on their travels for the third time in eight days, the destination on this occasion ‘K’ Park in East Kilbride for our first ever fixture against last season’s Lowland League ‘top dogs’ and the bookies favourites at present to make it back to back promotions.
