Martyn Fotheringham netted with two cracking second-half goals to clinch a 4-2 victory for a Forfar Athletic X1 in a hastily arranged friendly at Station Park last night against local junior outfit Arbroath Victoria.
The ‘Vics’ managed by former Forfar Athletic coach Eddie Gray in fact included in their ranks a handful or more of the ‘Loons’ Under 20 side of two seasons back as well as the son of former Station Park legend Paul Tosh.
Stuart Malcolm gave the majority of his fit players a run out at some point in the contest, with obviously the fringe players, in general, getting the full ninety minutes.
It was 2-1 to the home side at half-time, Mark Hill and Cammy Breadner the marksmen.
The visitors equalised with a spectacular effort early in the second period, before ‘Foxy’ netted with two strikes, one direct from a free-kick, both from 25 yards plus.
All in all and for different reasons, both sides no doubt found it a useful exercise, with the junior season in fact due to finally get underway locally this coming weekend.
As for the Athies, they will now look forward to a training session on Thursday evening, when a few players fitness will be assessed prior to the visit of Airdrieonians on matchday five of the League One season on Saturday first.
