Forfar’s Scottish Cup journey ended yesterday after being beaten convincingly by Dunfermline at East End Park.
With a large travelling support, the Loons went into the game buoyed by the return of Darren Whyte which allowed him to slot into a back three alongside Dailly and Munro.
The Loons were very much in a contest in the opening stages containing Dunfermline and Stefan McCluskey had a fleeting sight at goal when his long-range effort went just over the bar.
The hosts would take the lead in the 27th minute though when Tomas Brindley was pickpocketed on the wing after a slip and Craig Wighton made him pay with a smart finish from the cutback.
That goal knocked the stuffing out of the men in blue and the game would be out of sight before halftime.
Kane Ritchie-Hosler who stood out in midfield for the current League 1 leaders, converted after a poorly defended long throw in the 33rd minute.
Dunfermline would complete a fifteen-minute rout three minutes before the break. Josh Edwards broke from the left and fired into the net despite the best efforts of Marc McCallum.
With the game all but over, the second half became a bit of a non-event. The loons did have a penalty shout turned down when a cross struck the arm of a Dunfermline player. Nothing was given though and Craig Wighton was able to round off the scoring with a cheeky dink after a good save from McCallum.
Craig and the boys must now dust themselves down for the visit of Albion Rovers this coming Saturday as attentions return to league duty.
