Forfar Athletic 1 Stenhousemuir 1
[Saturday, 11 February 2023 20:05]
Forfar’s unbeaten run stretched to five games with a stalemate draw against Stenhousemuir.
Andy Munro fired a half chance over the bar following a corner early on but it was Stenny who took the lead after eight minutes when Sean Crighton bulleted a header into the top corner after Orr’s deflected shot was turned behind.
Having not trailed a game for some time, it was a new test for the resurgent Loons but the response to the setback was excellent and the Loons were behind for less than ten minutes. Matty Aitken found Stef McCluskey in space and he powered a shot through ‘keeper Curtis Lyle. Despite Crighton's best effort, the ball just about crept its way over the line.
In truth, the game looked as though it would finish in a draw from this moment. That is despite Crighton continuing to cause problems from set plays and Aitken clipping a decent opportunity just over the bar before the half was out.
The visitors probably had the best chance to claim the points when a long throw-in caused problems and Nat Wedderburn forced a good save from Marc McCallum.
The second half was a stodgy affair but the Loons continued to push for the winner and almost found it when Jamieson turned the ball narrowly wide of his own post from a corner.
Craig Slater spurned a couple of opportunities from the edge of the box, meaning the match ended in a point a piece in a result which neither side could grudge.
The point moves the Station Park men closer to 3rd place Annan and the Athies now sit just a point behind the Galabankies with a game less played.
A trip to Bonnyrigg is up next for the Loons where it’s hopeful that big travelling support will spur us on to a sixth unbeaten game.
