Match Report.
Forfar Athletic 1-0 East Fife.
Forfar ended their season with a victory over East Fife despite playing over an hour with ten men.
What could have been a shootout for fourth place turned into something of a dead rubber for the Loons and the first half certainly had that feel.
Roberto Nditi’s harsh second yellow for diving was the only real flashpoint of the opening 45 minutes.
The second half was played at a higher pace and the Loons almost had the lead shortly after the break.
Andy Munro’s goal-bound header was blocked by the arm of a defender on the line but the referee, somehow, saw no infringement and waved the play on.
Marc McCallum made a string of phenomenal saves to keep the Fifers at bay, once again reminding the home crowd why they voted him as their player of the year.
East Fife passed up a great chance to secure the winner with four minutes remaining. Ryan Schiavone blazed his strike into Gammies despite having the freedom of Station Park to pick his spot.
The Loons went straight back up the other end and cannoned a header, tantalisingly off the crossbar but McKinnon’s men did find a winner with just a minute left on the clock.
Nathan Flanagan did excellently on the wing to find space on the byline. He picked out Matty Aitken who tapped in to ensure the season closed with three points.
Fulltime 1-0
Despite a tinge of missed opportunities in the air, all at Station Park are delighted to have secured SPFL status so long ago and can certainly look forward to next season with optimism.
