Skelly (22') Mykyta (48')
Moore (51')
The Loons continued their preseason winning ways with a comfortable 2-1 win over a strong physical Formartine United team who finished 4th in the Highland League last season.
Goals from Josh Skelly and Callum Moore either side of half-time were enough to secure the win but the Athies controlled the game and had a few chances to add to their tally. Kieran Inglis forced the visiting keeper to make a great save as he struck a blistering shot from outside the box, Tomas Brindley rattled the crossbar with a cross come shot effort and Darren Watson was also unlucky not to get off the mark.
Mykyta scoring for the visitors early in the second half.
Matty Allan gave a masterclass in defence along with Stuart Morrison who has had an excellent preseason since arriving. Mark Whatley another standout performer in midfield.
Manager Ray McKinnon was delighted with all the players yesterday doing exactly what was asked of them. Ray commented following the fulltime whistle. “The lads have been excellent today playing against a strong physical team, we played some great passing football with lots of energy and scoring goals, I’m really pleased with them.”
Overall the 3 preseason games have produced some great football to watch with the Loons scoring 11 goals in 3. More noticeably the scorers coming from a range of positions as the newly formed squad look dangerous in most attacks. This will give the players and management team a real confidence boost as they move into competitive match’s starting this Saturday in Viaplay cup game v Cowdenbeath .
Full details will appear on our website and social media channels as normal.
Please note the proposed preseason friendly scheduled for this Tuesday evening v Dundee U20’s has been cancelled.
