Forfar caused a cup upset by deservedly defeating championship side Dunfermline.
The Loons stated their intent from the outset and Mitchell Taylor was quick to test the Dunfermline keeper with a dangerous ball after just three minutes.
The visitors continued their fast start with a number of set piece of opportunities in the early stages but each failed to create any real chance.
The Pars played their way in to the game and passed up two quick fire chances through McCann and Otoo after 22 minutes.
It was the Loons who took the lead, however six minutes later. Nathan Cannon did brilliantly on the right hand side but his cross went right through to Taylor on the left. Mehmet was equal to the wingers effort but the ball was eventually scrambled home by Russell McLean and the men in sky blue had a deserved lead.
McLean again came close with a lobbed effort before the break as Marc McCallum was also called in to action right before the half time whistle.
The evening got better for the Loons seven minutes after the restart when the outstanding Mark Whatley slipped the ball underneath Deniz Mehmet in the Dunfermline goal.
Forfar did well to soak up the home pressure in the second period with the defence standing strong and giving McCallum a fairly quiet night.
Josh Skelly had the chance to round off the scoring for the Loons when he was sent through in injury time but he was stopped before he could get his shot away.
The win for McKinnon’s men means that Group E is wide open with four teams now locked on three points.
The Loons host a Cove side on Saturday, who were torn apart by the Spartans tonight, knowing a win would put them in a good position for their trip to the capital next week.
