MATCH PREVIEW: Forfar Athletic v Elgin City
[Thursday, 25 August 2016 12:20]
Elgin City will make their first visit to Station Park on Saturday since February of 2010 to face up to Gary Bollan’s league leaders.
City however who finished runners-up to East Fife last term, before failing in the play-offs have made a more than reasonable start to the campaign themselves. Without making any major close season signings, they defeated our neighbours Brechin City 4-2 in a sectional tie in the Betfred Cup, are still in the Irn Bru Cup and after winning their opening two Ladbrokes League games, they lost out to a late counter at home to Arbroath last Saturday.
Elgin are managed by former Arbroath and Brechin boss Jim Weir who has former ‘Loons’ player Gavin Price as his right hand man.
As for the home side, they will be all out to maintain their one hundred per cent start to the league season which continued with the 2-1 away win down at Berwick last Saturday.
A difficult decision lies ahead for Gary Bollan who has only long term injury victim Michael Travis unavailable for selection. Does he stick with the same starting eleven?
Danny Denholm sat out last week’s contest on the bench having suffered a slight knock in a car accident the day before but he has come through training with no ill effects last week, while others such as Allan Smith and Marc Scott have impressed when given the opportunity in recent contests.
Martyn Fotheringham and some of the younger fringe members of the squad also got valuable game time in the Development side’s 6-0 win in a friendly over Heriot Watt on Tuesday evening, Kerr Hay scoring two excellent first half counters.
On paper, ninety minutes to savour lie ahead and hopefully a few extra fans will make the effort to come along come 3p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
The man in the middle will be Lanarkshire based second season Grade One official David Lowe who has already handled our home Betfred tie with Dumbarton this term.
The match is sponsored by our main club sponsor Orchard Timber Products, while Saturday also sees the launch of the new hospitality package within the 1984 Lounge itself to compliment those available and totally sold out for the season within the four lounges in the complex itself.
Admission prices on Saturday are the normal £13/7 for the stand, £12/6 for the terracing.
The 1984 Lounge will as usual be open for business to all supporters from 12.30p.m. till kick-off and on the final whistle till approximately 7.30p.m.
