Secure a Place in Station Park History
[Sunday, 25 December 2016 06:00]
Club officials are delighted with the response to the Forfar Athletic Wall of Fame initiative which was launched last week. There has been a stream of email enquiries and a number of bricks have already been snapped up with interest coming from as far afield as Australia.
Director, Ross Graham, who is leading the project commented. “We are delighted with the initial demand for this new initiative which gives our supporters the opportunity to have their personalised brick placed in a prestigious location at Station Park and become part of the history - and the future - of Forfar Athletic. It’s not only our loyal, local supporters that have are keen to get their name up on our “Wall of Fame”, as there have been orders for bricks coming from as far away as Wales and even Australia which shows that Forfar have a genuine worldwide fan base!!”
The project was launched by three generations of Loons stars and Baxter the Bridie just prior to the recent derby match against Arbroath.
Former captain, manager and record appearance holder Ian McPhee was the first to purchase a brick. Ian has made 536 appearances for Forfar in two stints (1978/79 – 1987/88 and 1991/92 to 1997/98). Ian was joined at the launch by Jack Coburn, who played in the early 1960s and is the Club’s fourth top scorer in one season (netting 34 goals in 1960-61). Amazingly in the 55 years since Jackie had that prolific season, no Forfar player has managed to come close to netting a similar number in one season. Current team captain Stuart Malcolm, who is in his third stint at the club, and has made over 90 appearances for Forfar made up the trio who were ably helped by Baxter the Bridie.
The bricks come with their own unique Certificate of Authenticity and will be engraved in the near future on a special area of wall on the main stand next to the tunnel area and will therefore be a prominent feature within the ground.
Bricks can be engraved in the purchaser’s own name; the name of a loved one; or with a special message (perhaps a fond memory from standing on the terraces from days gone-by?). The bricks are priced at £50 and allocation is on a first come first served basis.
