MATCH PREVIEW: Forfar Athletic v Cowdenbeath
[Friday, 27 January 2017 00:10]
Forfar Athletic and Cowdenbeath meet for the third time this season with the length of the Ladbrokes League 2 table between them and also with two quite amazing games between the sides already etched in the memory bank from earlier in the campaign.
Certainly the fans who turn up at Station Park on Saturday will be hoping for more of the same if not the managers. Both fixtures have been seven goal thrillers with the ‘Loons’ coming out on top 4-3 on both occasions.
What is even more remarkable is the fact that Gavin Swankie has popped up on both occasions with late winners, in the 87th minute at Station Park back in August, then deep into injury time at Central Park last month.
Gavin however will not be repeating the feat this weekend as he sits out the game with the ‘Blue Brazil’ having picked up his sixth yellow card of the season against Stirling Albion two weeks back.
Gavin apart, Gary Bollan may have a full pool to choose from. Martyn Fotheringham is available again having served his one match suspension, though Jim Lister may require a late fitness check.
Eddie Malone will make his home debut either in defence or in the central midfield role he occupied at Meadowbank.
Liam Fox’s outfit head to Forfar on the back of two defeats this calendar year having ended 2016 on a high with a 2-1 win away to Stirling.
They lost by all accounts slightly unluckily 2-1 at Montrose last Saturday, having been on the end of a solitary goal defeat against Berwick two weeks before.
The Central Park side have made a coup[le of signings in the transfer window, Liam Henderson arriving on loan from Falkirk and Scott Rumsby arriving after being released by Peterhead.
The home side may have accumulated 27 more points than their opponents going into Saturday’s contest, but there is no doubt Gary and his coaches will have their side well warned against even the slightest hint of complacency going into the contest.
West of Scotland based official Colin Steven is the man in charge, his second vist of the season to Station Park.
The match is sponsored by Strathmore Potatoes with five other parties enjoying a hospitality package in the lounges within the complex or the 1984 Lounge itself.
Admission prices are £13/7 for the stand, £12/6 for the terracing.
In conclusion as ever we would remind supporters that the 1984 Lounge at the ground will be open from 12.30p.m. till kick-off and on the final whistle till around 8p.m.
