MATCH PREVIEW: Clyde v Forfar Athletic
[Thursday, 02 March 2017 18:50]
The ‘Loons’ head to Cumbernauld on Saturday hoping to get ‘back on the rails’ after two draws and a defeat in their last three league games, results which have seen their lead at the top of the Ladbrokes League 2 cut to six points.
It will indeed be an interesting end to the third quarter of scheduled league fixtures with the Athies two main rivals Elgin City and Arbroath clashing at Boroughbriggs.
Forfar will head west delighted with the fact that apart from a couple of small niggles, no new major injuries have been reported. Danny Denholm sorely missed last week when he served a one match suspension will an all probability return to Gary’s starting line-up. Andy Munro who missed out last week with ankle damage is still a doubt, while sadly for him personally, Eddie Malone is denied the chance to once again tread the Broadwood ‘boards’ as he serves the final game of a three match suspension.
Clyde who saw manager Barry Ferguson step down following last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Annan, also lost in midweek to Montrose under the charge of caretaker boss Bob Malcolm. This meant that the ‘Bully Wee’ have now gone ten league games without tasting success and they sit second bottom of the league table on 26 points. They do however have two games in hand on some of the teams in close proximity.
In many ways therefore it will be two ‘wounded animals’ who will take the field come 3p.m. on Saturday, both sets of players for differing reasons keen to return to winning ways.
The visitors have picked up all six points in the two clashes between the sides to date this term. A Tam O’Brien counter was the solitary goal of the game at a rainy Broadwood in September, while at Station Park on Boxing Day, Clyde were 3-2 up with ten minutes of the match remaining, late goals from Jim Lister and David Cox clinching a momentous 4-3 victory for the ‘Loons.’
Capital City based first season Grade One official Scott Millar will take charge of a Forfar league fixture for the third time this season.
