MATCH PREVIEW: Cowdenbeath v Forfar Athletic
[Thursday, 27 April 2017 20:57]
The ‘Loons’ head for Central Park on Saturday for their penultimate game in the Ladbrokes League 2 campaign knowing that two victories will seal only the third League Championship in the club’s 132 year history.
Certainly all connected with the Station Park club from the Chairman down to the youngest fan will be hoping that Gavin Swankie and his team mates can reproduce over the next two Saturday’s the same form and commitment that they displayed in last week’s 3-0 victory over a Clyde side who were ‘on the ropes’ from first minute to last.
Gary Bollan will of course have to make at least one change to last Saturday’s starting line-up with Michael Travis ruled out this weekend as he serves a one match suspension.
Stuart Malcolm and Andy Munro or youngster Murray Mackintosh are the most likely candidates to replace him, although the manager may instead decide to tinker with his formation.
All will be revealed come 3p.m. on Saturday.
While the Athies are hit by a suspension, Cowdenbeath manager Gary Locke will welcome back striker Kris Renton from a one game ban which saw him miss last Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat from ‘Loons’ challengers Arbroath. Kris netted in Cowden’s excellent 3-0 win at Stirling a fortnight back, fellow front man Dale Carrick on loan from Livingston netting the other two.
The home side go into Saturday’s contest three points adrift at the foot of the table with the two sides immediately above them Clyde and Berwick Rangers due to clash at Broadwood, all three battling to avoid the dreaded pyramid play-off.
The Athies have won all three previous contests between the sides this season, but that will count for nothing come this Saturday afternoon.
Astonishingly the match at Station Park in August and the encounter in Fife in December both ended with a 4-3 score line, 3-1 the outcome at Forfar in late January.
Granite City based whistler Ryan Milne will be the man in the middle for Saturday’s clash, only five weeks after he handled the ‘Loons’ home clash with Berwick Rangers.
It would appear that a substantial support are making the trip down the M90 to support Gary and his squad and hopefully all will get right behind the team from the first whistle and make it a real ‘team’ effort on the day.
