FAFC Station Park Match Day Experience Success
[Tuesday, 06 November 2018 14:39]
The inaugural Station Park Match Day
Experience event took place at the weekend and a great time was had by all the
players and the supporters. It was a
perfect November afternoon with the sun shining as the two teams took to the
field to Local Hero, the usual match day tune getting the two squads into the
mood for the match ahead.
The Forfar Whites, managed by Ian
McBean and Jim Weir, took an early lead with a goal from former Forfar Athletic
striker Barry McLean. A second goal from Calum MacDonald was the reward for a skillful and determined move by the Glasgow Caledonian Physiotherapy Masters
student.
However, that was the end of the
goals for the Whites as the Forfar Sky Blues, managed by John Baird and Marc
McCallum, stormed back with eight goals! On the score-sheet for the Sky Blues, were
Loons Legends Ralph Brand and Martyn Fotheringham, a goal from Steven Bowles, along with a brace from the
youngest player on the pitch David Carr and a further double from Forbes
Davidson. The loudest cheer of the afternoon followed Jamie Fyfe’s goal which took
the tally to eight and a final score of Forfar Whites 2 – Forfar Sky Blues 8. Thank you to the match referee Duncan
Mclullich for keeping everyone in line.
Despite a few aches and pains at the end of the day it was declared a thoroughly
enjoyable afternoon on the pitch with many notable moments including a missed
penalty for both sides!
Off the field a group of supporters enjoyed
the Boardroom Prosecco Hospitality packages and a large crowd of youngsters
took on Baxter the Bridie and Marc McCallum in a penalty spot competition.
Following the match, a buffet was
prepared for the players and a presentation took place in the packed 1984 Lounge
of the key awards by Marc McCallum:
Champions: Forfar Sky Blues –

Manager of the day: Ian McBean
Man of the match (Forfar Whites): Calum

Man of the match (Forfar Sky Blues):

The afternoon was rounded off with a
series of excellent interviews by David McGregor with six of the Loons Legends recounting
tales of past incidents and their continued affection for the Club.
The 'official' photos (thanks to Garry
Caney) and match higHhlights (thanks to our Arbroath friend Neil Douglas who
returned to help with current FAFC TV videographer taking part) will be
available later this week but for now some photos from Sunday's match have been
posted.
With thanks to everyone who helped out
on the day and in the organisation of the event. As with all match days the contribution of the
band of volunteers is vital in ensuring events and activities run smoothly. A special thanks to Martin Gray who ensured
the teams were well equipped with training gear and strips and had not one but
two loads of kits to organise over the weekend.
Finally, a huge thanks to each and
every player, manager and to all the supporters who came along and supported
the lads and the Club.
