Summary – The ‘Loons’ head to Gayfield on Saturday first to take on runaway league leaders Arbroath and hopefully with temperatures scheduled to rise and the ground’s proximity to the coast there will be no weather problems encountered.
Jim Weir’s squad travel in good heart following three successive league victories which have seen them cement their fourth place in the table. These victories were then followed by a highly encouraging display in the Scottish tie at Rugby Park last Saturday.
The manager has added to his squad since the Kilmarnock clash with addition of midfielder Brad Spencer and the former Dumbarton player goes straight into the pool for the game against the ‘Lichties.’ Dylan Easton an absentee last week due to an ankle injury picked up in training remains a doubt, but that apart the rest of the squad are ready and raring to go.
The home side have also added to their experienced squad during the registration window with the capture of strikers Luke Donnelly from Stranraer and Greg Spence from Alloa Athletic. Both plaayed in a 4-3 win over a young Celtic side in a friendly last weekend, a match which saw former ‘Loon’ Danny Denholm notch a hat trick.
Speaking of hat tricks, the Forfar defence will be paying particular attention no doubt to Bobby Liinn who has amazingly notched all six goals scored by his side in the two previous encounters this term.
The Athies squad know it will be no easy task against Dick Campbell’s side come 3p.m. on Saturday afternoon, after all only Raith have lowered their colour sin league action to date, but they will certainly be up for the task and a continuation of recent form and belief and the scoring prowess of John Baird and Dale Hilson will lead to a reward for all concerned.
Hopefully Michael Travis and his colleagues can also look forward to similar backing from the stand and terraces as has bene the casde at recent home games and most certainly in Ayrshire last Saturday.
