Summary – Forfar Athletic head off to the deep south west of the country on Saturday to face a Stranraer side currently sitting in second bottom spot in the table and seemingly in a four-way fight to avoid relegation or a place in the League 1 end of season play-offs.
However, Stair Park has never been a particularly happy hunting ground for ‘Loons’ sides over the years, though there have been notable exceptions, including booking a place in the League 1 play-off final two seasons back.
Jim Weir though will undoubtedly be hoping with three away games to play, five overall, that his squad can re-produce their stunning home form on their travels into the bargain.
In fact, if results went the way of the Station Park outfit this coming Saturday, a play-off place this time around could be mathematically certain come 4.50p.m.
The Athies head into the game on the back of their superb victory over Arbroath which delighted their fans last weekend, their eighth successive home three-point haul.
No injury worries were reported following the contest and will be up to the manager to decide whether to go with the same starting line-up or make a tactical change or two to hopefully secure a first away success since late January at Gayfield.
Stranraer have had a difficult March, recording one win in six outings, with three of the other fixtures ending in defeat.
Over the course of the season Stevie Farrell has brought in eighteen new faces, but as yet has not quite found the formula to put together a run of consecutive positive results.
Goalkeeper Max Currie could return on Saturday after serving a two-match ban.
The ‘Loons’ lost 2-1 on their December visit, while a late John Baird counter secured the three points for the home side at Station Park the following month.
It is, therefore, four points apiece to date in the clashes between the sides this term, but there is no reason on current form why the visitors cannot increase their tally to seven on Saturday afternoon.
