Summary – The ‘Loons’ head into Saturday’s home game with Airdrieonians on the back of three straight defeats, at the same time they now sit precariously close to the bottom two spots in the league table.
Injuries have undoubtedly hit hard in recent times, but a return to winning ways is an undoubted priority, a point no doubt being impressed upon the players by Jim Weir and his staff.
On the plus side however, there were undoubted signs of a return to the form of the opening games of the campaign in the second half display against so far unbeaten East Fife at Methil last Saturday, with home manager Darren Young admitting in after-match interviews that the Athies had been the better side in that period. Sadly however the equalising goal would just not arrive.
Looking ahead to Saturday, Andy Jackson and Murray MacKintosh remain sidelined, but Dale Hilson did resume training on Monday evening following a five-week lay-off. Saturday’s contest may come along to quickly, however?
Hearts loanee Rory Currie who returned to the ranks last weekend following his four weeks out with an ankle knock may well find a starting berth after his appearance up front in the second 45 at Methil.
The visitors arrive at Station Park on the back of two surprise home defeats to Elgin City in the Tunnocks Cup and last week in the league to our near neighbours Montrose. However, they did win their last away game on the 5th of the month up at Peterhead.
The Lanarkshire outfit under the stewardship of Ian Murray have brought in an amazing nineteen new faces since the end of last season and in fact, ten of them were in last weekend’s starting eleven.
The ‘Loons’ were deserved 2-0 winners at the Penny Cars Stadium on the opening day of the league campaign courtesy of second-half counters from Andy Jackson and Callum Tapping.
Certainly, a repeat performance and end product would be just what the ‘doctor’ ordered this time around!
