Summary – Falkirk make their first competitive visit to Station Park since a CIS cup tie clash on Tuesday the 11th of September, 2001, an evening when football became a total irrelevancy as news continued to break about the horrors that had occurred that day in New York.
Moving on to November 2019 and the start of the winter programme of fixtures and Forfar fans will be hoping that it will be the home side on Saturday who can defy the odds and make the headlines, at the same time bringing to an end a run of four games without a point being won.
Certainly the results and at times the performances have not been what was envisaged by the ‘Loons’ faithful after the re-shaped team made such a promising start in league and cup.
It is the same group of players that are still plying their trade in Athies colours with a couple of additions, albeit Andy Jackson and Murray MacKintosh are still sidelined through injury.
Last Saturday there were first half ‘shoots of recovery’ and a one goal half-time lead following on the improved second half performance at Methil. However the second period was a different ‘kettle of fish’ and in the end Airdrie ran out deserved winners.
Dale Hilson made his return to the starting eleven against the ‘Diamonds’ and came through will no ill effects.
Manager Jim Weir will have the decision to make as to whether another shake up of the starting eleven is in the pipeline. Hopefully the visit of the strong pre-season favourites to lift the tile and with it a quick return to Championship football will give the home players a lift into the bargain, this being often the case.
As for the ‘Bairns’ manager Ray MacKinnon made a host of close and early season signings totally revamping his squad.
Results as he would admit himself have shown a little inconsistency, that perhaps summed up by their failure to find the net at home to Clyde last weekend which in the end saw the ‘Bully Wee’ head from the Falkirk Stadium with the three points in their ‘locker.’
Prior to that a 4-0 home win had been secured against Peterhead, following a hard fought 2-2 draw at Kirkcaldy, four points from a possible nine their October points tally.
Earlier in the campaign a double from Louis Longridge and a Michael Doyle screamer sealed a 3-0 win for Falkirk on their own patch against the ‘Loons.’
A large travelling support is expected on Saturday, but hopefully the home fans will stick by their side, prior to another lengthy period on the road for Jim Weir and his squad, the next scheduled home game not due until the last day of November.
