Summary – The ‘Loons’ make the long trek to Wigtownshire on Saturday for a basement battle with Stranraer at Stair Park, a venue that has not been a happy hunting ground for Forfar sides in recent times.
They will head there on the back of last weekend’s slightly bizarre defeat. Having managed to find the net three times for the first time in a league fixture this season and having conceded only one goal in their previous three matches, the Athies shipped four to Dumbarton on this occasion and consequently saw the ‘Sons’ head back west with a valuable three point haul.
A week on and following that game, skipper Michael Travis is struggling to recover from the leg knock he received midway through the second period. Jordan Kirkpatrick remains sidelined, while loanees Rory Currie and Archie MacPhee are also still ruled out.
So it could well be a case of sixteen fit players making the trip to face Steve Farrell’s side who sit five points adrift of Stuart Malcolm’s side at the foot of the table.
Saturday’s hosts have had a torrid time as far as league results go with only two home wins recorded to date over Raith Rovers and Clyde. However they had a superb 1-0 home win against Dunfermline Athletic in the third round of the Scottish Cup, their reward a televised fourth round trip to Ibrox.
Like their opponents on Saturday, goal scoring this term has been a major problem, James Hilton their top score with six goals to his credit.
There is no doubting the importance of this fixture for both sides as we reach the half way stage of the league campaign, the winners if there is one, destined undoubtedly for a very Merry Christmas!
