Summary – Forfar Athletic will go ‘toe to toe’ with in form East Fife at Station Park on Saturday hoping, without doubt, to pick up their first points of the season against Darren Young’s side.
Despite the ‘Loons’ taking a first-half lead at Station Park in September, the Fifers ran out winners by the odd goal in three, while victory at Methil just over a month later was clinched through an early counter from Steven Boyd who was also on the mark for his new side Peterhead on Tuesday past.
The home side though go into Saturday’s encounter unbeaten to date in the month of February, having recorded one win and two draws. However, only one thing a victory which could well on the day lift them out of the bottom two in the league table will be on the minds of Stuart Malcolm and his players.
The manager introduced three substitutes as the second half progressed at the Balmoor Stadium on Tuesday night and all including most recent acquisition Mark McKenzie made a positive contribution. Whether any made a big enough impact to have gained a starting berth at the weekend will be revealed around 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
On the injury front sadly Michael Travis looks likely to be sidelined for the rest of the campaign following the knee ligament damage that became him in such at the time innocuous manner two weeks back. The word from his parent club Hibernian is that Ryan Shanley is likely to be an absentee till early April.
Saturday’s visitors have had an excellent season and currently sit in a playoff berth. This month they have recorded three impressive home wins over Dumbarton, Peterhead and Stranraer, losing only in a midweek joust at Falkirk. Former Station Park favourite Danny Denholm was a scorer in last Saturday’s success over the men from Stair Park.
Manager Darren Young’s delight at his side’s showing in the first half of the season was perhaps epitomised by the fact that he made only signing during the transfer window, forward Callumn Morrison on loan from Hearts.
Obviously Saturday will be a test of the ‘Loons’ credentials and character prior to what appears on paper to be a tough schedule to say the least in March month, but there is no reason why a three-point haul cannot be secured come the final whistle.
C’mon the ‘Loons.’
