Forfar Athletic FC – Coronavirus Situation Update
[Monday, 16 March 2020 12:04]
Now that the dust has settled over the weekend following the SPFL’s decision to postpone the full fixture card scheduled for 13/15th March, it gives an opportunity to update ‘Loons’ fans on how the situation is affecting the club to date and how the club officials intends to move forward during the course of the coming week.
Sadly following discussions with all parties concerned we have had no option but to ‘pull the plug’ on the Annual Ladies Dinner which was due to be held in the Reid Hall on Friday the 27th of the month, a ‘sair dunt’ to the club’s finances, but again such decisions pale into insignificance in the overall context of the pandemic.
The next major fund raiser on the club’s calendar is the 25thAnnual Sportsman’s Dinner in the Reid Hall which is still some nine weeks off. However there is obviously already doubts about it surviving and a final decision will certainly have to be made around mid April time.
On the football front club officials have taken the decision to cancel both scheduled training sessions for the first team squad on Monday and Thursday evening.
This will allow the Board of Directors time to reflect on the overall position, take and hopefully receive further advices from the games governing bodies in Scotland who are in regular contact with government officials on the potential way forward for the game, prior to in all probability a Board Meeting on Thursday.
Forfar Athletic like many if not all other small businesses in the country are going to suffer a great deal of financial hardship moving forward but plans will have to be formulated as soon as possible to make sure the club can pull through and survive this crisis that no one could have foreseen or predicted.
Certainly it is important that no knee jerk reactions are forthcoming and the club will certainly not at this moment be joining the throng of pundits and otherwise making at times ill thought out assertions on the current season itself and the way ahead for the Scottish game.
Hopefully the club will be able to issue a further communique to their supporters, sponsors and all interested parties by the end of the week.
